Dr Lorraine McKenna

Veterinary Intern (Rotating)

Dr Lorraine McKenna - Veterinary Intern (Rotating)
Dr Lorraine McKenna DVM MRCVS Veterinary Intern (Rotating)

From a young age, Lorraine was immersed in the world of animals, growing up on a farm where she learned the joys and challenges of caring for them. The bond between humans and animals always fascinated her. As Lorraine grew up, that evolved into a desire to pursue a career in veterinary medicine and help both humans and animals. She also wanted a career where she could do some good.

Lorraine chose a rotating internship because she want to gain as much knowledge and experience as possible across various specialties. Her goal is not only to specialise in small animal surgery but also to become the best vet she can be. Lorraine believes that by learning from experienced mentors and colleagues and by being involved in a wide variety of cases, she can provide the highest level of care and make a positive impact on the lives of pets and their families.

A day in the life of:

“I’m usually busy helping with a range of cases, attending morning rounds, assisting in surgery, running diagnostics, and helping with treatment plans. The best part of my day is reuniting owners with their pets after their treatment, there is no better feeling. Seeing the happiness and relief on their faces reminds me why I love what I do, and it shows how much we can achieve as a team.”

When not at work, Lorraine loves staying active whether it’s running, hiking, going to the gym or spending time outdoors. She looks forward to catching up with friends and enjoy getting lost in a good book. Lorraine likes hearing about the escapades of the animals on the farm back home in Ireland when she visits. There is always a chaotic tale to be told!
